Mind the Map, the collective exhibition by students from the Accademia di Belle Arti (Florence) that was born at the end of the workshop curated by Robert Pettena, is the result of an exercise on observation. During the workshop, students explored the spaces and contexts of an unprecedented Florence, traveling routes foreign to tourist maps and sometimes of the citizens themselves. The brutalist architecture of Sorgane, the area embraced by the Mugnone and Arno rivers, the Manifattura Tabacchi industrial complex, and the historic Parco delle Cascine.
The photographs, videos and performances in the exhibition intercept the contradictions of architectures and natural landscapes, overthrow the logic of which they are traces and hints, heterotopias with respect to the present city.

Mind The Map thus contributes to the creation of a narrative mapping of places and people, rewrites the history of spaces as we know them, and precisely through the passage of documentation traces their value as cultural memory.

The project was made possible thanks to the support of the Accademia delle Belle Arti, and the collaboration of NAM – Not A Museum and Toast Project Space.
