Toast Project presents Potatoes and Spinach, a solo exhibition by Alessandro Agudio, on September 22nd, 2026, at 6.00 pm.
The project takes its starting point from extremely familiar images, gestures, and forms, observed for long enough that they begin to lose their self-evidence.
Among these, an image from Agudio’s childhood in Taccona di Muggiò, in the Milanese hinterland, resurfaces: that of the community gardens, a vast grid of small plots of land organized and assigned by the municipality to retirees. An orderly landscape, made up of repeated sections, cultivated individually yet brought together within a shared structure, which returns today as a distant memory.
In the project, this image overlaps with others belonging to the present. What is everyday and recognizable is passed through repetition, observation, and memory until it gradually loses a precise identity and takes on the consistency of a landscape.
The repetition of a gesture, as well as prolonged and distracted observation, opens up a state akin to absent-mindedness. It is within this suspension, between memory and perception, sculptural practice and digression, that Potatoes and Spinach takes shape.
