MORRICONE

by Maurizio Baroni
Edizioni Lazydog

Lazydog, an independent publishing house hailing from Verona, has published the best book dedicated to the work of composer Ennio Morricone. The volume is curated by Maurizio Baroni who assembled never-before published writings and photos found in hidden archives. Baroni was also able to collect contributions from notable personalities such as Quentin Tarantino, Dario Argento, Lisa Gastoni, Christopher Frayling, John Carpenter, and Giuseppe Tornatore.

IN CERCA DI GUAI (ROUGHING IT)

by Mark Twain

Edizioni Adelphi
Translated by Giulia Arborio Mella

Samuel Clemens (known by his pen name, Mark Twain) leaves for the wild west and begins fitful journalistic activity, reporting directly from the frontier. In 1872, after one year on the road, Clemens decides to collect some of what he wrote during this time in a novel which recounts a trip in a horse-drawn carriage following his brother who had been transferred to Nevada for work. From barroom brawls  to the life of a gold-digger, this book in its 79 chapters is a delightful treat. Other fine authors who write in the Western genre are McMurtry, Feinmann, and Pacheco (for a South-American take other than that of the legendary Borges). To heighten the experience during these days of being house-bound, we highly recommend reading Western novels while listening to the music of Ennio Morricone.

Fake Love Letters, Forged Telegrams, and Prison Escape Maps

Designing Graphic Props for Filmmaking

by Annie Atkins

A venture into the fictional world of Annie Atkins, contemporary cinema’s most loved graphic designer. Hundreds of fake letters, postcards, passports, pockets, logos, stamps, prints… all those small, precious objects that are part of a film scene, but never center stage. Because if they had been, as Atkins herself points out, it would mean that the graphic work had been done incorrectly; these items were designed to remain in the background. This book also contains details about her relationship with the brilliant director Wes Anderson. It is a unique volume which recounts a singular profession.
