OASIS

Fan Qingduo

Following the rapid development of industrialization, the buildings around us and the billboards are in a state of exponential growth and we have already become their slaves. In this environment we have lost the ability to perceive our true self and the true identity of people is suffocated, standardized and has become part of the “Society of the Spectacle”, a concept theorized by Guy Debord. We instinctively desire to free ourselves from these chains, embarking on a pure spiritual exploratory journey, becoming new free nomads to escape from this standardized cultural desert just as the nomads in the desert desire an oasis.

Fan Qingduo

Fan Qingduo, a Chinese artist currently residing in Florence and a student enrolled in the graduate course of “Visual Arts and New Expressive Languages” at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, tends to use the light and acetates as artistic media in his creative process. Most of his works explore the impact that the“Society of the Spectacle” theorized by Guy Debord, the excessive industrialization and the urbanization have had on people, especially on a spiritual level.
