On the occasion of the opening of the Katja Novitskova exhibition, Manifattura Tabacchi invites you to visit the ateliers and shops that make up the lively community of the Factory.

During the evening, the shops and ateliers of Manifattura Tabacchi will organize special initiatives dedicated to the public in their studios: ZOO Hub a research-based project that narrates and promotes the avant-garde of the contemporary through the language of design, inaugurates the first temporary exhibition, a selection of furniture and lighting objects that ranges from pure conceptual research to functional and formal synthesis; Bottega Biologica where you can find artisanal and agricultural products from small local companies carefully selected by founder Filippo, will distribute samples of vegan cheeses and EVO oil from Fattoria Triboli, an organic farm in Impruneta; Cuchiss Lab bakery born out of Elisabetta and Lara’s love for Anglo-Saxon sweets, will offer a cookies tasting; Fàbera Italian brand of precious, handmade, ethical and sustainable jewellery, will create jewels on the spot to show the different stages of creation; SUPERDUPER a brand known worldwide for the production of iconic handmade hats, will remain open with extended hours; Trek Bicycle world leader in the design and production of bicycles and accessories with a collection that ranges from road cycling to mountain biking, from children’s bikes to mobility in the city, including assisted pedalling, will remain open with extended hours; Blues Barber barber shop of excellence born out of a passion for blues music and the ancient tradition of Sicilian barber shops, will host a corner with Marvis products; Noa Ink Tuscany’s leading tattoo and piercing shop founded by the international artist Noa Yanni, will open the doors of his studio by remaining open with extended hours and performing tattoos without an appointment; LUNEDÌ whose creations are part of the universe of minimal upcycling and avant-garde tailoring, will be open until 9.00 p.m; Hiroko bentō e vini fatti a modo, Bento Bar that will present dishes of popular Japanese cuisine conceived and prepared expressly by chef Hiroko for dinner; Bulli&Balene bistrot that will serve its gourmet specialties along with soft drinks and coffee from Ditta Artigianale Pop Up.

In the boulevard of the Factory, it will also be possible to try fresh dishes from the food truck Chiosco ai Renai and Necciaio, the first gluten-free street food in Florence.

The exhibition opens to the public on Wednesday 12 April, from 6 p.m., with an evening dedicated to art with activities for children, skateboard shows, design, musical performances and food in the spaces of the new creative and productive workplace in Florence.

Educational workshop by Onouka for children aged 6 to 15 years old

From 5.00 p.m to 7.00 p.m @Atelier Blu/B8

On the occasion of the opening of the Katja Novitskova exhibition, Manifattura Tabacchi, in collaboration with the Onouka association, is organising an educational activity designed to discover the works of the famous Estonian artist and to reflect on the value of images in the contemporary world. Through drawing practices, participants will reflect on three-dimensional space, nature and its digital version, subsequently building a new world through various collage techniques inspired by the artist’s research such as recreation and reproduction.

Participation is free of charge, subject to prior application and subject to availability.

Skateboarding lessons for children and girls by Fortezza Crew

From 5.00 p.m to 6.00 p.m @Skate Plaza

The skateboard lesson for children is organised by Fortezza Crew the first boardsports association in the Florence area.
From propaedeutic exercises on balance to those dedicated to pushing, leading, bending, braking up to the most complex tricks, the lesson is organised in groups divided according to the level of the students and held by qualified instructors.

Opening of 'Katja Novitskova' exhibition

On the occasion of Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi‘s exhibition Reaching for the Stars. Da Maurizio Cattelan a Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Manifattura Tabacchi is hosting a special exhibition dedicated to Katja Novitskova in collaboration with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.
The Factory at Manifattura Tabacchi hosts the works of the internationally renowned Estonian artist, who proposes a reflection on the value of images in the contemporary world in a short circuit between art and nature, reality and representation.

Opening 'Info' exhibition

Toast Project Space presents, from 6.00 p.m, Info by Filippo Tappi.  

A streetlight. A voice posted. Shouts, warnings, help, for sale, smoke.

Filippo Tappi (Cesena, 1985, lives in Bologna) is an artist working with sculpture, printmaking and collective dynamics. In 2010 he founded Tipografia Testamento, a printing organ dedicated to rapid editions and craft publications. In 2019 he co-founded Nights, a nomadic collective project between visual arts, robotics and writing. Since 2020, he is part of the staff of localedue. He was one of the artists in residence at MAMbo for the ‘Il Nuovo Forno del Pane’ project. He designed the new visual identity of Art City Bologna 2021 with Marco Casella.

Officina Botanica tour with Antonio Perazzi

From 6.30 p.m to 7.30 p.m

At the center of Manifattura Tabacchi, on the roof of building 11 of the Factory, is Officina Botanica, the roof garden rich in biodiversity designed by the landscape architect Antonio Perazzi.
Officina Botanica is not just a name to describe the roof garden of the old manufacturing workshops but it is a special place, a hidden “botanical garden” where, thanks to large planters designed to reproduce the same characteristics of cultivation in the open ground, place the strips of luxuriant vegetation capable of giving rise to a real urban jungle.

On Wednesday 12 April, at 6.30 p.m, it will be possible to preview Officina Botanica through a free guided tour of Officina Botanica together with the landscape designer Antonio Perazzi.

Skateboard Show

At 6.30 p.m @Skate Plaza

Skaters will perform on Manifattura Tabacchi’s Skate Plaza, inaugurated last June, for a Skateboard Show and a contest during which a jury will evaluate and award the best tricks.

The event is organized by the Fortezza Crew Association and DreamStore Firenze, a streetwear shop.

Musical Performance by Kode9

 

From 10.00 p.m to midnight @B11

Kode9, internationally renowned DJ, producer, artist and writer, pioneer of dubstep music, will curate a musical performance in the B11 building.

He set up the record label Hyperdub in 2004, and in 2019 the sub label Flatlines to focus on audio essays and sonic fiction.From 2017, he co-curated Hyperdub’s monthly event series Ø. He has recorded 4 albums, 2 with the late vocalist The Spaceape; Memories of Future (2006) and Black Sun (2010), and 2 solo albums, Nothing (2015) and Escapology (2022). He has compiled 4 DJ mix compilations, Dubstep Allstars vol.3 (Tempa 2006), DJ Kicks (K7 2011) and Rinse 22 (Rinse 2013), and in 2018, Fabric 100 with Burial. In additional to his record label Hyperdub, he has also released tracks on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, Soul Jazz and Rinse and remixed for Mr. Fingers, Lee Scratch Perry, the Junior Boys, Battles and Dabrye/MF Doom among others.
His book ‘Sonic Warfare’ was published on MIT Press in 2010 and with AUDINT he co-edited the book ‘Unsound: Undead’ for Urbanomic Press in 2019. He has produced numerous installations, and his sound designs have also been presented as part of the Hyundai commission at the Tate Modern (2018) and the Barbican ‘AI: More than Human’ in London (2019).  

Preceding the artist Kode9, from 8.30 p.m to 10.00 p.m, musical performance by Luwei, Opening, from 20.00 to 22.00, musical performance by Luwei,a DJ born in Chengdu, China, and currently residing in Milan, Italy. Inspired by China’s burgeoning underground club scene, she started her DJ journey in 2018 and made her debut set in her hometown Chengdu.
