nel paese delle ultime cose Public Program

from 23rd September to 15th October

The Public Program of the group exhibition nel paese delle ultime cose is envisioned as a space of emanation and completion around the research which has led Irene Adorni, Beatrice Favaretto, Roberto Fassone, Lorenzo Lunghi, MRZB and Davide Sgambaro to the realization of their works.

The exhibition combines performances, workshops and meetings curated by the artists whose dialogic and interactive approach creates alternative paths to the language and themes explored by the exhibition.  These events are complemented by guided tours with our curator, the activity of cultural mediation is carried out in collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti and the SAGAS department of Università di Firenze.

The title of the exhibition, nel paese delle ultime cose, is taken from Paul Auster’s novel In the Country of Last Things. To introduce the young participants to the dystopian and parodoxical country of the last things, an itinerary is created inside the exhibition area. The participants become words, memories and technologies seekers involved in a process where disappearance becomes discovery.

Getting inspiration from Miss Italia, a work on display, both Beatrice Favaretto and Michela Alessandrini have a conversation around the mode of representing sexuality in the contemporary world: the direction explored or to be explored, the differences that help define individual and collective subjectivities. An excursus on the history of images in motion from the cinema and the experimental television to the Pornohub and Post porno trends.

TALK - Lorenzo Lunghi | Presentation of Specchio Riflesso

Saturday 8th October at 6pm

The route begins shortly before 6 p.m., partially overlapping with the guided tour. As in procession, people move along Manifattura Tabacchi up to the spazio Festa.

This event adheres to the Contemporary Day, the event promoted by AMACI – Associazione dei Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani

Lorenzo Lunghi’s work, Specchio Riflesso, involves the introduction of a lonely talk/performance. The human presence that has exploited the technology of Specchio Riflesso during the entire Superblast residency activates a ritual of egocentric deformation. Ego is the core of a sensitive and perceptive personality overexposed to technology and microphones that can pick up electromagnetic frequencies, ultrasounds, light, feelings and paranoias. Just like bats, people wander through echolocation, bouncing sounds and information which help them moving within a context.

WORKSHOP - Davide Sgambaro | Non dormire, workshop by Davide Sgambaro

The workshop on Thursday 13 October has been canceled and is waiting to be rescheduled.

Non dormire is a workshop dedicated to creating a collective fairy tale. Delving into themes dear to David Sgambaro’s research, Non dormire gets in touch with the works he presented in the exhibition nel paese delle ultime cose by NAM – Not A Museum. His workshop evolves around a collective exchange of views about desire and sacrifice explored through the metaphor of sleep. The topics addressed are dreamlike imagery and ideal imagery, nocturnal stimulation and the paradox of daytime reality, insomnia and childlike sleep. The participants follow the artist’s research and creation methodology therefore they are given the opportunity to delve into original modes of production and to compare different practices. Together, participants create a conceptual map of generational feelings and reactions to the struggles in the post-capitalist era.

The workshop is held from 2 pm to 8 pm, it is free and open to a maximum of 10 people. Students, artists, curators and anyone who is interested can participate.
