At the center of Manifattura Tabacchi, on the rooftop of Building 11 of the Factory, you will find Officina Botanica, a rooftop garden rich in biodiversity designed by landscape architect Antonio Perazzi.
Officina Botanica is not just a name to describe the garden on the roof of the old workshops of Manifattura; it is a special place, a hidden “botanical garden” where, thanks to large planters designed to reproduce the same characteristics of cultivation in open ground, lush vegetation strips are located, giving rise to a true urban jungle.

The garden, open to the public every day from 8.00 a.m to 10.00 p.m, features 100 trees, 1.300 shrubs and perennials, and 250 square meters of ground-covering plants. Officina Botanica focuses on the micro-flora and botanical rarities that characterize the uniqueness of the Florentine and Tuscan landscape, celebrating the qualities of Mediterranean vegetation. All the selected trees and plants require minimal water input and low maintenance, and they have been chosen for their ability to filter and reduce air pollutants.

Antonio Perazzi

Landscape architect, founder, and partner of his eponymous design studio, Antonio Perazzi is the mastermind behind the landscape project of Manifattura Tabacchi. Having studied at the Politecnico di Milano and at the Kew Royal Botanical Gardens in London, he has formulated the concept of “Temporary Botany” through his work and teaching activities. This concept theorizes a new formula for landscapes designed for the fast-paced modern society and serves as an experimental platform for the creation of low-maintenance gardens that enhance the quality of life and requalify any type of environment.
