a piece of florentine history restored to the people of Florence
23 june 2018 is a date that will go down in the history of Manifattura Tabacchi. Over 5000 people came to learn more about the redevelopment of the ex-industrial complex famed for its rationalist architecture, which is found just a short distance from Piazza Puccini.
Throughout the day, members of Manifattura Tabacchi Development Management srl, the company set up to oversee the redevelopment of the complex, presented the visitors with information on how the project will progress over the coming years. At the same time, at an info point in the Piazza dell’Orologio, visitors were able to hear recordings of local citizens talking about the “liveability” of the different neighbourhoods.
Guided visits of the vast disused area proved to be incredibly popular with the visiting public, having been completely booked out within only a few days of their release. Volunteer guides were provided by FAI Giovani – Firenze, with ex-employees of the Manifattura also contributing. At every stop on the tour, in addition to receiving information about the site’s history and the redevelopment project, the visitors also enjoyed musical, theatrical and dance performances, involving more than 50 Florentine artists.
A special thanks to all of the organisations, associations and people who made this unforgettable day possible:
