L’Eredità delle Donne

L’Eredità della Donne, from 23-25 October, live at Manifattura Tabacchi – festival partner and main site of the 2020 edition – and live-streamed online. Opening event with Serena DandiniIlaria Capua and Fabiola Gianotti, with writer Margaret Atwood taking part via video call. Guests at the festival include Madeline Di Nonno, CEO of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, minister Elena Bonetti, vice-director of Banca d’Italia Alessandra Perrazzeli, astrophysicist Simonetta Di Pippo, anaesthetist Annalisa Malara from Codogno Hospital, who diagnosed Patient One, and Cristina Comencini presenting her new book.

A special edition, with an invitation to participate and share the events as they go out live-streamed, with the aim of spreading the messages of the festival as far and wide as possible.

For three days in Florence, scientists, economists, business leaders, politicians, writers, and artists will come together, strong in their ideas, their skills, and their self-belief, facing up to the challenge of a world after Covid-19: a ‘new’ world, with its challenges and difficulties, but also its potential.

The location is particularly apt as historically Manifattura Tabacchi has been a place that was populated by women, at one point employing up to 1,400 workers, with the majority being the celebrated ‘sigaraie’, the female workers who actually made the cigars.

The events for L’Eredità della Donne will be held both live at Manifattura Tabacchi and in live streaming on L’Eredità delle Donne website and Facebook page and on the Manifattura Tabacchi Facebook page.

The festival L’Eredità delle Donne was set up in the name of an illustrious Florentine, The Palatine Electress, otherwise known as Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, the inspiration for the initiative and the last descendant of the Medici family who, following the death of her brother in 1737, bequeathed the family’s large art collection to the Tuscan state, becoming a mother figure for Italian and European culture.
