If I woke up one day

If I woke up one day

Spatial elaborations from another world.

One day, the world awoke in a silent room. Suddenly, individual freedom had to be reconsidered and resources normally taken for granted were no longer so readily available.

If I woke up one day is part of Manifattura Tabacchi’s Living Room dedicated to the discussion of culture and contemporary art goes digital.

If I woke up one day is an imaginative place in which time, space, human relationships, and nature have changed shape and the virtual becomes real. Six artists imagine what would happen beyond the wall by freely experimenting with space in relation to the concept of limits in a dystopian universe. Our perception goes from non-material forms, from rereadings of preexisting episodes and original spatial elaborations, while the authentic relationship with analogical reality — human contact, shared spaces, emptiness, supermarkets, traditions, relationships with inanimate objects — remains. Art will start again from here: by living in a place that does not belong to us or represent us.

Each week will reveal a new artist to which the column will be dedicated. The artists will create original material, from videos to performance art, sounds and images. Each oeuvre will be accompanied by conversations between the artist and an expert in a specialized field of contemporary culture. Conversation pieces is a space for artists to probe their research from an external perspective, through the process of comparing and associating new ideas.
