Ambra Castagnetti lives and works in Milano.
‘Every day you have to abandon your past or accept it, and then, if you cannot accept it, you become a sculptor’ – Louise Bourgeois.
In her work, Castagnetti attempts to dispel and release the feelings of disquiet that arise from dealing with everyday life. Focused on natural, feminine, and animal forms, the artist redraws her feelings towards reality: the body and the mind, and the relationship between the two, become central elements. Ceramic and metal shield a soft, fragile material that would otherwise be destined to dissipate and is unrecognisable in its reflection.
Castagnetti studied at the Università di Antropologia di Bologna in 2016 and at the BA program of Painting and Visual Arts at NABA (Milano) with Adrian Paci. She has participated in various projects and exhibitions, including: The Hawt Show II, Galleria Rolando Anselmi (Roma, 2020), Art Drive In, Assicurazioni Generali (Brescia, 2020), Agli scultori giovani, Villa Necchi (Milano, 2020), and Transatlantico, Mana Contemporary (New York, 2020) curated by Edoardo Monti. Castagnetti has partaken in many artist residency programmes, most notably: Appocundria with Casa Testori curated by Marta Cereda (Milano, 2019) and Palazzo Monti (Brescia, 2020).
